5 Tips for Corporate Event Catering



Planning a corporate event can be daunting, especially if you have a number of guests to impress. One of the most important aspects of any corporate event to think about and start planning well in advance is that of the catering. Here are some tips to help you get it right.


1. Investigate dietary restrictions and preferences


To ensure that you cater to everyone’s needs, it is essential that you chat to your guests individually about any dietary restrictions or preferences they may have. It is highly likely that there will be a few vegans and vegetarians in the mix, along with guests who only eat Halal or Kosher food.

From a preferences perspective, a good idea is to simply ask your guests to tell you their favorite food vs. their least favorite food. This will allow you to effectively plan the menu so that there will be something available for everybody to enjoy.


2. Type of catering

The type of corporate event that you will be hosting will play a huge role in the type of catering you should provide, as will the theme. For example, if you are hosting an awards ceremony or a boxing fundraising event, then a classic sit-down meal will fit in nicely. However, if you’re hosting an end-of-year celebration or something that involves more standing than sitting, you might want to consider platters and finger foods. Also, keep in mind that the majority of sit-down meals will be more expensive than finger foods.

Tying in the food with the underlying theme of the event is always a special touch that gets the attendees’ attention as well.


3. Pay equal attention to the drinks
While the quality and quantity of the food is of great importance at a corporate event, drinks are equally as important if you are to keep your guests happy throughout. The best way to ensure that the drinks keep flowing is to hire corporate bartenders. These bartenders have been effectively trained to keep up with the pace and will always go out of their way to keep your guests smiling and properly ‘watered.’


4. Consider the time of year

You can save yourself a lot of money by catering according to the specific time of year. Opt for menu items, platters, and finger foods that embrace seasonal ingredients. These seasonal ingredients are sure to come with a much more attractive price tag, especially if you will be utilizing them in bulk.


5. Presentation is key

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter how mouth-wateringly delicious the food is if it has been poorly presented. Be sure to ask each potential caterer to provide you with a visual representation of how you can expect the catering to look on the day or evening of the event to avoid any unpleasant surprises. If you would like the food presented in a specific way, give the caterers enough time to perfect this ahead of the event.
