Book Review: "The Day Leo Said, "I Hate You!"

I recently received a book called, "The Day Leo Said, "I Hate You!" by Robie H. Harris to review.

The Day Leo Said I Hate You!

Some info on the book:

The moment those dreaded words? "I hate you!"? pop out of a young child's mouth, almost every child wishes they had never been said.  In The Day Leo Said, "I Hate You!" (Little, Brown),  renowned author Robie H. Harris shows how strong but perfectly normal feelings like anger and frustration can lead to such outbursts, and how one child and his mother successfully deal with those feelings and ultimately reaffirm their love for each other.  In a few short pages and in a caring and reassuring manner, Harris and three-time Caldecott Honor illustrator Molly Bang convey some big emotional truths about the inner lives of young children.

Leo hates it when Mommy says "No," and today it feels like she just won't stop saying it.  "No string beans in the fish bowl!"  "No toothpaste down the toilet!"  "No drawing on the wall!"  Leo is angry and frustrated.  But when the words "I hate you!" pop out of his mouth, he instantly wishes he could stuff them back in.  Then his biggest fear sets in: Will Mommy hate him for saying those three words?

My take on the book:

When I was asked to review this book, I was really interested in looking at it. Mostly because it brought back memories of that happening to me when I was little. I rememeber my friend's mother always scolding me because I would say the word "hate" a lot.

When I received the book, I was really impressed. The story is great for little ones - they can really learn an important lesson from this book. I also loved the big bold drawings in the book - illustrated by Molly Bang.

Check out this book to teach kids how the words "I hate you" can be hurtful, but if you make a mistake, and say sorry, you can make up for those three little words.

Buy it: The Day Leo Said I Hate You! is available at Amazon.com in hardcover. Paperback coming in November!
