Book Review & Giveaway: "Higher Education" - CLOSED

I was recently sent the book "Higher Education (On Life, Landing A Job, and Everything Else They Didn't Teach You In College)", written by Kenneth Jedding.

Pub. Date: April 13, 2010
Publisher: Rodale Press, Inc.
ISBN-13: 9781605296760

Information on the book:

Kenneth Jedding guides graduates during one of the most challenging periods of time in their lives. Jedding, a therapist and career counselor/life coach, is  in a unique position to understand the needs of young adults as they burst onto the world - as he will receive his second graduate degree by the time the book is released.

Recalling his own wish as a young graduate for "The Book that would tell me all the things I didn't learn in school," Jedding wrote the manual for post-college life that would inspire advice, great tips and energizing ideas.

My Take on the book:

While I was reading this book, I was thinking, "I wish I had this book after I graduated college." Reading for example Chapters called: "You Majored in the Right Thing," "You Don't Need to Know What You're Going to Do," and "Putting Yourself Out There," really spoke to me. I really could have used some of this advice after I graduated. The author talks about how after you graduate you feel like you have to have a job immediately after and if you don't you feel like a failure. This is so true, and he talks about solutions to help with this situation.

This is a manual for post-college life that inspires solid advice, great tips and energizing ideas. Some of the advice included is:

How taking your parent's friend to lunch can help you find a job.
How to find a job when there aren't any
How being a clerk can lead to your dream job
How to uncover your true passion

I would recommend this to anyone on the verge of graduating or even recent graduates. This would also make a great graduation gift for someone. In this economy this book actually, in my opinion, would be great actually for anyone looking for a job right now.
