I have talked in previous posts about the benefits of cord blood and about saving stem cells from menstrual blood. Well now there is new information, I would like to share with you from the CryoCell Press Release .
Cryo-Cell International has announced results from a new study that shows that adding menstrual blood cells to umbilical cord blood stem cells expands the number of progenitor cells. Progenitor cells are cells that grow into mature blood cells.
Stem cells found in cord blood have been proven to treat more than 70 life-threatening illnesses. Since the first successful cord blood stem cell transplant in 1988, cord blood stem cells have been used in more than 10,000 transplants worldwide. Cord blood stem cells however can only be collected at birth and does not yield a sufficient number of stem cells typically required for transplantation. That is why this new research is so exciting.
The new studies show that adding menstrual stem cells to cord blood stem cells will boost the yield of cord blood stem cells. Thus producing more cells that can possibly be used to help fight such diseases including leukemia, neuroblastoma, lymphoma and sickle cell anemia.
If you are interested in more information about this read the full press release for yourself. Which will help you to make a decision on if you want to start saving your stem cells for the future.
