I Got an Award

My online friend Toni from It is nap time, gave me this award. Go check out Toni's blog for some great posts! Thanks Toni for the award!

They all are charmed with the blogs, where in the majority of its aims are to show the marvels and to do friendship; there are persons who are not interested when we give them a prize and then they help to cut these bows; do we want that they are cut or that they propagate? Then let’s try to give more attention to them! So with this prize we must deliver it to 8 bloggers that in turn must make the same thing and put this text. I am passing this award to:

This is the part I don't like about getting awards. I don't want to "tag" anyone. Maybe I'm weird, but I don't feel like passing it on. So I'm just going to say "Thanks Again Toni" for the award!

A Very Rainy Weekend

It was a very rainy weekend here in New Hampshire. It rained Friday through Sunday. Here's some highlights from my weekend:

Friday: Rained all day. My son stayed home sick from school. When my husband got home from work I went to the grocery store. Not fun in the pouring rain. Woohoo, exciting.
Saturday: Rained all day. The only thing we did outside the house was take my daughter to her panio lessons. Played some games with my daughter, like Sorry, some card games, and even tried Scrabble. Which was kind of cool, playing that with my 8 yr. old daughter. (We still haven't finished the whole game yet.) Even played some Cribbage with my husband. We literally haven't played that in at least a year.
Sunday: Rained off and on all day. Sick of staying in the house so even though it was raining decided to see if a little fall fair was still going on at a place we like to go walking at. Got there around 1 and it was still going on. Saw a live bird show. They had a group that saves injured birds there. Which was neat. They had some owls, and different kinds of hawks. Took some pictures, didn't look at them yet. My son took some, just looked at them and he deleted them! He didn't save any of the pictures he took.

And of course watched the Red Sox - Yankees games. Which they didn't really matter much, because The Red Sox already are in the playoffs and the Yankees aren't.The Red Sox won last nights game. And the Yankees won the other two. So we didn't get swept. Now on to The Playoffs!!

So that was my exciting boring weekend. Hope you had a good weekend.

5.11 Tactical Gear

I started thinking about what I'm going to get people this year for Christmas. I want to try to think of something different to get my husband this year.

My husband would really like some 5.11 tactical gear. I know he would really like a new knife. Maybe I'll surprise him with one for Christmas.

Photo Hunters (11) 129 "View"

Today's Photo Hunters theme is "view." This was the "view" from my house this summer. After a rain storm the sun came out. I happened to go outside and look up to see this beautiful rainbow. These pictures don't do it justice.

I was lucky to see two rainbows this summer. On two different occasions I got a "view" of a rainbow. After not seeing one in years, I couldn't believe when I saw two in one summer.

Time to Ditch The Flip-Flops

These aren't a picture of my flip-flops. This summer I wore I think the brand Avia or something like that. That's one of the things I love about summer is wearing shorts and flip-flops. I barely wore my sneakers unless I was going on a long walk, and never anything but shorts.

Now that it is officially fall, the days are getting cooler. So unfortunately I started wearing pants on some of the days. I wore shorts this past weekend because it was pretty warm out. And will wear them if we still get a warm day here and there. I will definitely miss wearing shorts everyday!

I also loved wearing my flip-flops all summer. But I think it is maybe time to ditch them. I saw a while back on the Today Show, how a new study showed that flip- flops can change the way a person walks and that can invariably lead to foot and ankle pain. The study also found that when you wear flip-flops you take shorter steps then when you wear other kinds of shoes. So that puts more stress on your joints. They're also not good for your toes. Because you have to scrunch up your toes to keep the flip-flops on, and this will actually hurt the muscles in your toes.

So the suggestion is not to wear flip-flops as your everyday shoe. Wear them to the beach or a quick trip to the mall. If you have any kind of pain from them switch to a different shoe for awhile. And unlike other shoes that are more comfortable when there broken in, the opposite is true for flip-flops. You should get a new pair if they get to broken in. (I didn't follow any of these suggestions this summer, but will in the future.)

My legs and ankles started to hurt about a week ago, and I'm pretty sure its from the flip-flops I wore all summer. So until next summer I'm ditching the flip-flops. And next year I might invest in a little better kind. Maybe even sandals!

Change Your Workout With XFLOWSION

I try to eat healthy, and live a healthy lifestyle. But the one thing I know I'm lacking in is exercising. I've never belonged to a gym, because I've always felt uncomfortable exercising in a group setting. Before I was married I used to work out at home to some different exercise tapes I used to have. I don't think I have them anymore though.

So I was looking for some new workout DVDs to maybe start working out again. And I came across some called XFLOWSION. XFLOWSION is a revolutionary "triple training" program. It is the only program that combines martial arts, power yoga, and dance. It efficiently and a effectively combines the proven best moves from martial arts, power yoga and dance. Giving you a 3-in-1 workout that will provide results in 1/3 of the time.

Ever start working out and then hit a plateu? I know I have, that's probably why I gave up working out. This won't be a problem with the XFLOWSION program. Because they have a Plateu Blast, brought to you by Celebrity Trainer Eric Paskel. XFLOWSION has fresh, constantly shifting moves, designed to promote fat burning and muscle toning.

This looks like a great program. And it looks like you won't get bored with this workout, because of the 3-in-1 program. So if you're like me and you're looking for a workout program that you can do from the comfort of your own home, then you should look into XFLOWSION. And with a little sweat you can sculpt and stretch your body into a total transformation!

Any One Watch The Emmys?

One word - BORING!

I haven't really watched the Emmys in years. But since there was nothing else on, I decided to watch it. Let's just say it was painfully boring, and the comedy skits were horrible. It was actually embarrassing to watch at times. I changed the channel during some of the parts. Just because I couldn't bare to watch.

And they didn't even let the people give their acceptance speeches. I know they don't want the show to go as long as it does sometimes. But this year it was totally ridiculous. They totally cut the people off, while they were still talking. They rushed the show just so they could finish by eleven! I don't know which is worse having the show go on forever or cutting the people off BIG TIME, just to finish on time. It was very annoying.

Also I barely knew any of these shows that won, or were nominated. I mean, I don't get HBO or those other type channels. I think a lot of these shows that won, must be on HBO or something. Because I never even heard of them. Which I don't agree with either. I liked the old days when the shows were on the basic channels that everyone gets. I mean not everyone gets HBO.

Whatever! That's my little rant on the Emmys. The only thing I was happy about was, this was the first year that they gave away an award for Best Host for a Reality Show. And I totally wanted Jeff Probst to win. And he did! Yea! Survivor is like my favorite show of all time. And I feel like it was the first Reality Show on TV. Survivor basically started it all as far as Reality Shows go. So I feel like Jeff Probst definitely deserved to win it. So that was the only award I agreed with or was happy about. But that's just me. Did you watch? What did you think?

P.S. I can't wait until Survivor starts again!

Upgrade to Windows Vista with Confidence

Just this morning when I was trying to upload some photos, the computer was running very slowly. The computer also froze up a few times. It took me over a half an hour to do what should have taken less then 5 minutes. Which was at a very inopportune moment, since I was in a rush to do other things this morning.

Imagine these computer problems, if you actually are running a small business from your computer. Small businesses can't afford to have their computers run slowly or freeze up for a half hour or more. They need to have their computers running as efficiently as possible. In order to do business they must have the optimal performance from their computers.

If you have a small business, or are just a blogger like me, then it might be time to start thinking about upgrading to Windows Vista. You can upgrade very easily, and their support team will be there to help. They have free coaching and support available for small business owners. Their specially trained agents are there to help from 10 am to 7 pm. Call them with any questions, such as: compatibility questions, if Windows Vista is right for your business or any other questions you might have. They are there to help.

I know I get very frustrated when my computer freezes, never mind running a business off of it. So if you are a small business owner then you can feel good about upgrading to Windows Vista with confidence.

Photo Hunters (10 ) 128 "Road"

This weeks Photo Hunters Theme is "road." These are some pictures I took a couple of weeks ago, at the same time I took last weeks "Wild" pictures.

This was at the same park: Mine Falls Park. I guess the tree got knocked down after the heavy rains from the night before (due to Hurricane Hanna.) It was right in the middle of the "road." It must have just happened because it was blocking the "road," which is actually one of the entrances to the park. I'm sure someone has cleared it out by now.

Antipoleez Gets Rid of Bad Breath

L_7772e957ad3fdd41d1496338c098ff25

Unfortunately some members of my family smoke. With smoking usually comes bad breath. Regular gum and mints only mask the odor, and doesn't always do much to help.

Now there is a a new hard lozenge called antipoleez, that eliminates odors. Antipoleez doesn't just mask odors with a fruity smell, like gum does. But it works by totally eliminating bad breath from smoking, alcohol, or food. And it doesn't leave any other odor in its place. It also doesn't contain any chemicals, or artifical flavors, but only natural ingredients. It complies with FDA regulations.

So if you have bad breath from smoking, alcohol, or that tuna sandwich you ate for lunch. Then try Antipoleez. Maybe I should get some for those members of my family who smoke.

Four Foods on Friday

My first time joining. Decided to play along. Visit Fun, Crafts and Recipes to play too.

#1. Share a recipe for something Italian.

Chicken Cacciatore. I actually made this last night for dinner. For the first time in a long time. I made a simple version of it. Just added chicken thighs (you can use any kind of chicken), large can of tomato sauce, large can of stewed tomatoes, chopped onion, chopped green pepper. And I added a little water to it to. Just threw all that into a crockpot and cooked for about 5 to 6 hours. And viola! Done. The chicken comes out so tender, it falls of the bone.

#2. Jam, jelly, preserves, marmalade, fruit butter or butter. What’s on your toast or bread?

Usually Grape Jelly, that's what my kids like and that's all we usually have in the fridge!

#3. What’s your favorite Kellogg’s product? (Since they’re multinational I’m hoping everyone can answer this one. If you don’t have Kellogg’s products, what’s your favorite cold breakfast cereal?)

Frosted Mini-Wheats

#4. Do you like liver? What about liverwurst?

Actually never tried it. My Brother-in-law and my Father used to eat liver and liverwurst. Smelled yucky and looked yucky I never could bring myself to try either of them.

Get a New Mattress from Overnight Mattress

Oh how I would love to get a new mattress! I think it's recommended to get a new mattress, maybe every 5 years. I think my mattress is about 8 years old. I would love to get one of those memory foam mattresses. They look so comfortable. And would be great for the back problems I think I'm getting from the mattress I have now.

When looking online for a company that sells them, I came across Overnight Mattress.com. Overnight Mattress is a memory foam manufacturer who sells directly to the public. Their memory foam mattresses look very comfortable. And if you purchase one you can do so at zero risk. This is because Overnight Mattress offers a 120 night mattress trial. If for any reason you are not happy with the mattress, you can return it and get a 100% refund. They will even pay for the return shipping.

This sounds like a great way to try out one of the memory foam mattresses. But Overnight Mattress offers this return policy, because their mattresses are unbelievably comfortable, that they have very little returns. They are also very reasonably priced.

They also ship their mattresses very fast. That's why they're called Overnight Mattress. Any mattress that is purchased before 12:00 pm, will be shipped that day. So if you're looking for a memory foam mattress, like me, then check out Overnight Mattress. And you can start getting a better nights sleep.

Morey's Piers Amusement Park

I was recently talking on the phone to a friend of mine who I haven't talked to in awhile. And she told me how she had a family beach vacation this summer.

Tuesdays are a "Time Special," get there at certain times and you can receive All-you-can-ride wristbands. Wednesdays are xtreme! Ride all the xtreme rides and then enjoy unlimited rides on all six rollercoasters. My friend really had a great time there. She stayed at a local hotel. If you want information where to stay in the area then check out their website for more information on wildwood hotels motels. And like my friend, you could be on your way to a great “New Jersey Vacation."

My Son Made a 7 Layer Dip!

My son is in 7th grade this year. I can't believe it, he is growing up so fast! His first trimester he is taking cooking class. I can't believe that either, that seems so grown up.

But anyway he seems to be really enjoying the cooking class. He has always shown an interest in cooking anyway. When we go camping he likes to help do some of the cooking. So in his class last week they made a 7 Layer Dip. He came home with the recipe and really wanted to try to make it himself.

We actually had the perfect opportunity to do that, this past Sunday. My sister and brother-in-law came up to visit Sunday. So he decided to make it for them on that day. I went to the store the day before to get the ingredients. And he put it together Sunday morning. He made it all by himself! (Well virtually all by himself, with a little help.)

The dip came out great! And when he served it, everyone seemed to really like it. As evidence by the fact that it was pretty much eaten up quick. I'm very proud of my son, for trying new things, and being interested in cooking. Which is a great skill to have. Who knows maybe someday he can cook a whole meal for us!

Here's the recipe for 7 Layer Dip:

1 1/4 C refried beans
1 avocado (mashed)
1 1/2 tbsp lime or lemon juice
3/4 cup sour cream
1/2 tbsp taco seasoning mix
1 seeded, diced tomato
1/8 C sliced black olives
1/4 C green onions sliced
1 1/8 C shredded cheese

In casserole dish or pie plate, layer refried beans. Mash and add lime juice to mashed avocado, layer. Combine sour cream and taco seasoning mix, spread for next layer. Spread tomatoes for next layer, then drained black olives. Chop green onions and spread over olive layer. Finish with shredded cheese, and serve with tortilla chips.

A Very Easy Way to get a Favicon

I always wanted a Favicon (which stands for Favorites Icon), for my blog. It's the cute little icon you see next to a website's name. But I never knew how to go about getting one.

I did some research on it. I read a few posts on other people's blogs on how to do it. I was still lost. I'm not very good with html codes. I get nervous messing around with my template too much. And I have no clue how to unzip a zipped file. Which is all things you had to do according to what I read on how to get a Favicon. (By the way if anyone can explain unzipping files, that would be cool.)

After trying all that, I found a website that makes it very simple. It's Free Favicon Generator. You can either make one from one of your own pictures, or you can browse their gallery and use one of theirs. There are other websites that do the same thing, but they require you to download the file, save it, open it, etc. I could not figure out how to get it to work. With the Free Favicon Generator all you had to do was pick your favicon and then they give you the code to put in your blog.

All you have to do it copy and paste the code they give you and put it directly under the head tag in your template. Save template and you have your favicon! It was so easy, even I could do it. I had a heart, but just changed it to an "S" for STAY AT HOME MOM, or Sue for my name. I guess I'll keep that for now. Do you like it?

If you want a favicon for your blog visit this website, it's a very easy way to get one for your blog!

Freezing Zucchini

I'm very disappointed in my vegetable garden this summer. I planted 9 tomato plants, 3 cherry tomato plants and I guess it was 6 zucchini plants. As I stated in a previous post, (read Here for that and for my zucchini bread recipe) we had a lot of rain this summer. So I think I got out of all those plants 5 tomatoes, and they were really small ones. And a couple handfuls of cherry tomatoes. Other years I had so many tomatoes I couldn't keep up with them. Which was great I would be able to make sauce and even freeze some of it. Other years I had so many cherry tomatoes I was giving them away to the neighbors. Oh well, this summer was a bust for the tomatoes.

But I managed to get a reasonable amount of zucchini out of the garden. I think I had maybe about 14 or 15 zucchini that managed to grow this summer. I made some zucchini bread with some of the zucchini. But the problem with zucchini, just like all vegetables is that by the end of the summer you have a bunch of them all at once. I had them all in the refrigerator, but they wouldn't last to long in their. So I decided to freeze them.

I'm just using them for zucchini bread. So what I did was shred it, measuring 2 cups at a time. And then putting them into ziploc baggies. Because it takes 2 cups of shredded zucchini to make a batch of the zucchini bread. (this will actually make 2 loaves of bread) So I figured when I want to make some zucchini bread, all I have to do is grab a bag of the frozen zucchini and I can make some bread. I tried it last week with one of the frozen bags of zucchini, and the bread came out great. I hope it will stay good frozen for the rest of the winter, because with what I froze I will be able to make about 14 loaves of zucchini bread!

Here's a few pictures of the shredding and the bags of zucchini:

Photo Hunters 127 (9) "Wild"

Today's Photo Hunters theme is "wild." Here are some pictures I took last weekend. It is of a wild river. This is the river that runs through the city were I live. It's the Nashua River. Besides running through the city, it also goes through a really nice park where you can walk. The park is called the Mine Falls Park. It is a 325 acre park that includes forest, wetlands, and open fields. My family and I love walking in there on the weekends.

The Nashua River was wild last Sunday because of the heavy rains we had the night before. It was from the remnants of Hurricane Hanna. I bet it will be pretty wild again after Hurricane Ike comes through, I think on Monday.

Mrs. Sproutwell is a Soccer Mom

Here's the latest video of The Sproutwells, the fruit and veggie family. In this video the daughter Ruby is playing soccer and the Mom starts getting a little aggressive. She turns into a "Soccer Mom." My kids don't play soccer, they play basketball, so I guess I'm not really a soccer mom. But some of their friends play soccer. I'm sure their moms are on the sidelines cheering for them.

In the video it says Ruby got her soccer shirt from freshfunds. If you want to start bidding on products from freshfunds, then you should start accumulating some points. You can do this by purchasing healthy foods like Chiquita Fruit and Veggie Bites, Fresh Express Gourmet Cafe Salads, or Fresh Express Packaged Salads. Book Review "The Glass Castle"

Online Book and Movie Club at Muthahood Crib

I recently read a book that my mother gave me called, The Glass Castle: A Memoir, by Jeannette Walls. It is the author's account of her life.

Jeannette Walls today is a reporter for MSNBC, but growing up was a different story. "The Glass Castle" is her account of her childhood and life before she became a reporter. This is a very poignant book and I highly recommend it.

Her childhood was a very interesting one to say the least. She grew up with two very colorful parents and had many unique experiences. Her family never stayed in one place for long and moved from town to town. She grew up very poor, because her parents didn't really hold down regular jobs. And her father was also an alcoholic.

She tells the story in very precise details, recounting pretty much everything that happened to her since her first memory starting at three years old. And a lot of things did happen to her, I don't want to give away to many details, because you should read this book for yourself. But let's just say she experienced everything from digging food out of trash to living in a house with no electricity or running water. And many more things that are to numerous to mention and, like I said I don't want to give away to many details.

This book is told in a bittersweet way. At some points you can't help but laugh at how absurd some of the things that happened to her were, and other times you want to cry at how horrible her childhood was. This is one of those books that you read, and don't soon forget after you put it down. You read it and continue to think about it days, weeks, even months later.

"The Glass Castle" is not the usual kind of book that I read. So when my mother gave it to me I wasn't sure at first. But after reading it I really am glad that I did. It really gives you something to think about. I recommend this book to anyone who likes memoirs and stories of people rising above hard times and then succeding despite it all.

I can't speak for anyone else, but after
I read this book I appreciated that, I didn't have it so bad growing up compared to this. Like the author Jennette Walls says at the beginning of the book, anyone that's interesting has a past. And this is one interesting story!

Hair Loss Solutions for Men & Women

Logo

If you have thinning hair and are starting to loose your hair, then you may want start thinking about a hair transplant. Medical Hair Restoration (MHR) may be the solution you've been looking for.

MHR was established in 1992, with the goal of providing artistically and technically sophisticated hair restoration. They provide hair loss solutions to the growing number of men and women who are affected by hair loss.

It is a scientific fact that hair loss is genetic. While there may be other factors that make small contributions to hair loss, heredity is the main cause. Previously it was believed that baldness was inherited solely from a persons maternal family, but that has been proven not to be true. You can inherit it from either branch of your family.

My side of the family, as far as I know, does not have a problem with hair loss. My husbands family does not have thinning hair, so much as they have a receding hair line problem. The men on my husbands side of the family every year are losing inches in their hair line. Maybe my son someday will have to worry about this.

If hair loss is a problem for you or someone in your family then you should check out the Medical Hair Restoration website. There you can learn all they have to offer and have some of your questions answered. You can also sign up and receive a free educational dvd package. You can also receive your free personalized hair/scalp analysis, and be on your way to finding the solutions to your hair loss!
