It's Fun to Stay at the YMCA
No, I'm not talking about the song (even though I like that song.) I'm talking about the actual YMCA.
Both my kids take classes there. My son is in a basketball league. Once a week they practice, and then have a game. He really enjoys it. It's not only teaching him the skills he needs to play basketball, but also teamwork and sportsmanship. And it's good exercise for him.
Right now my daughter is taking Jazz/Tap classes. She has taken different types of dance classes for the past 4 years. She also has in the past taken swimming lessons at the YMCA. On Saturdays she has her class and practices her steps. Right now they're getting ready for their recital in May. It's great fun for her and she likes dancing, she also has made some friends over the years through her classes.
I like the YMCA, because it teaches the kids about whatever activity their taking, but also gives them confidence in themselves. And they do it in a fun, not so competitive way. We have tried other organizations for sports and activities, especially for my son, and they were just way to competitive. That's good for some, but my son is not a very competitive type of kid. That's why the YMCA is great for him, they treat everyone the same. And give everyone a chance.
And I think they have pretty reasonable prices, compared to other places. They have a huge amount of activities, even for adults. So check out your local YMCA for the whole family!
Hi Sue,
ReplyDeleteThat's good. I remember when I was still young, I also wanted to join a martial arts class at YMCA. I, however, never really pursued it since it was so far away from our place.
Now, as a father to a 10 year old, I think I'll try to ask my son if he wants to join in any YMCA activity. It will be great if he agrees to join. Thanks for sharing this Sue.
Hi Sue, Sounds like everybody is keeping busy & having fun. You have been Blessed with a couple of cute kids. Thanks for sharing! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks guys for your comments. It's good to keep the kids active, especially in the winter months here.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, they have an excellent program! When I was a kid, I used to take classes at our local "Y", and my children have done the same - up to and including even their summer camp program. It's excellent! Also, as you mentioned, the swimming lessons are superb. My youngest daughter took them there, too!
ReplyDeleteHey there,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. I think that social exposure and exposure to new activities opens a child's up to interation that they are not used to - this aids them in growing and any activity where children can find peers and positive feedback is definitely a plus be it YMCA, boyscouts, karate class sports league...
Times like this, I find myself pursing my lips up unconsciously and wishing I had such experiences growing up ;)
Good on you.
